New Genesis: Mining Rig Defense
Mining Rig Defense (also known as Defense Quests) is a type of Emergency Quest in Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. Up to 8 players are tasked with defending ARKS' Resource Mining Rigs in a specific area from Waves of enemy attacks.
Much like other Emergency Quests, occurrences of this quest will be announced in advance, and the start point will appear on your World Map.

Mechanics of Mining Rig Defense
These mechanics are common across Mining Rig Defense quests.
Mining Rigs
The Mining Rigs are what need to be defended from being attacked by enemies. Each of the Mining Rigs have a color associated with them, as well as their own health bar that represents their structural integrity. When the health bar of a Mining rig drops to zero from being attacked, it is destroyed.
By using the "Repair Damage" device feature, the structural integrity of surviving Mining Rigs can be restored. "Deploy Barrier Shield" can be used to protect the Rigs from damage for a limited time.
When all Mining Rigs are destroyed, the Emergency Quest will end.
While the remaining durability of all Mining Rigs will determine your rank in the quest results, the rewarded items are not affected.
Waves
Mining Rig Defense Quests consist of multiple Waves, where enemies will spawn and move towards Mining Rigs to attack them. Waves will end either when all enemies are defeated or the wave timer expires.
ARKS' objective is to protect all Mining Rigs until the end of the final Wave.
Collect Signs and Merit Points
Collect Signs can be found throughout the Emergency Quest area. By collecting them, you obtain Merit Points that can be used to access support functions of the Mining Rigs and Delivery Devices.
Obtained Merit Points are rewarded to all players, and each player can use them independently on their own choice of support functions.
Mining Rig Functions
As you obtain Merit Points from Collect Signs, the available functions accessible from Mining Rigs expands. Available uses of a function can also be restocked.

Special Equipment from Delivery Devices
When available to be used by collecting enough Merit Points, Special Equipment can be called down by a player temporarily via Delivery Devices for increased firepower.
Mobile Cannon
The Mobile Cannon is a heavy-duty handheld ranged weapon that comes with its own set of abilities. While equipped, you are unable to use your regular weapons.
- Rapid Fire: A normal attack that continuously fires bullets for as long as the button is held. You are able to move while firing.
- Charge Blaster: A powerful charged shot that while devastating, can only be used a limited amount of times.
- Boost Glider: A high-speed movement action that propels you at high speed. Consumes PP over time.
- Step Dash: A melee strike that also allows you to evade attacks.
Each Mobile Cannon can only be equipped for a limited time. When unequipped, your normal equipment will be available again.
Letting the time expire, manually selecting the "Arms Release" entry on the subpallete, or being incapacitated will unequip the Mobile Cannon.
Sudden Incidents
Sometimes when a new enemy wave starts, a Sudden Incident will occur that causes the wave to feature hazards it normally doesn't as well as additional enemies.
A popup will inform you of what the wave will feature, such as enemy weapons like the Barrigale appearing.
Enemy Weapons
Weapons belonging to the enemies can spawn during waves.
Backhack
A weapon that attaches to a Mining Rig and damages them over time. Attack it directly to destroy it.
Meldrum
A weapon that attacks Mining Rigs from a distance. Attack it directory to destroy it.
Barrigale
Barrigale create vertical barriers to obstruct player movement. Attack the core to destroy it.
