Special Weapons
In NGS, you will be occasionaly holding temporary weapons that will override your current weapon. Those are Special Weapons, time-limited armamaments that have special attacks.
You equip a Special Weapon via a Delivery Device. Oftentimes there are limitation stipulating it's use, like amount per quest or required quest points, to be able to summon a Special Weapon.
While Special Weapons are in use, your main pallete and subpallete are gonna be automatically changed into dedicated pallete that you cannot modify or change until the time runs out or you disembark from the weapon. However, the weapon equipped still matters- it is still considered that you have equipped your weapon and all of the stats from your class and weapon apply in Damage Calculation, however, Potentials and Class Skills will not activate while it's in use.
Unlike with Boarding Weapons from the base game, having a Special Weapon will not protect your from death, if your HP is 0, you will be incapacitated and forcibly dismounted. In addition, most of the Character Skills are unusable.
All Special Weapon attacks have base PA Power of 100, however every skill has a diffirent correction. The numbers reffered to here are numbers after correction is taken into account. In addition, they affect ALL Damage types, regardless of the icons or seeming damage type. They also deal Physical Down as well.
Using an empty weapon pallete while having a Special Weapon equipped makes all attacks deal 1 DMG!
Weapon Types
There are 3 Special Weapon types, each with distinct properties, behaviors and quests you can use them at.
Mobile Cannon
Mobile Cannon is an offensive Special Weapon, designed in mind to deal with large swaths of mobs and a rapid rate of fire, however it has low speed and relies on it's thrusters for quick travel. Please note that using attribute weapon will not apply the +10/15% damage multiplier from having attribute.
While equipped with Mobile Cannon you cannot use Reverser Signs. This means reviving people is impossible. Resta Signs are available at Sub-Pallete Position 1 and work as normal.
While cannon is in use, you get an extra damage multiplier depending on your main class level:

Floating Board
Floating Board is a mobility type Special Weapon where instead of dealing damage, it's all about fast traversal through the map. Along with Delivery Devices, you can also summon them from Board Terminals. You may also be forced to board it as a part of an activity, such as Field Race. Floating Board's speed is affected by gravity.
The primary way of dealing damage with a Floating Board is to directly contact enemies with a board. The damage dealt will be based on the current speed traveled.
There are 4 speeds of a Floating Board:
- Low Speed, indicated with a red dot on the engine
- Medium Speed indicated by a blue dot on the engine
- High Speed indicated by a steam of blue energy coming from the engine
- Dash Boosted indicated by a red aura along with stream of blue energy.
Those speeds have alloted PA Power numbers attached to them, increased for every level of speed. Therefore, maintain high speed as much as possible to deal as much damage as possible. Futhermore, Floating Boards can destroy Frozen Containers.
Floating Board Gimmicks
There are 2 special gimmicks with the Floating Board.
- Orange Dash Rings: Go to special Dash Boosted state for 5 seconds, which increases damage to maximum. In addition, Special Weapon time is extended.
- Orange Jump Pads: Once you press the jump button or reach the end of the pad, you will have a boosted jump. However, be careful as you lose control over the Floating Board while you're in mid jump.
Floating Board Skills
Floating Board can use following skills:
Icon | Skill Name | Pallete Position | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Photon Brake | Main Pallete Action 1,
Shift + Action 1-3 |
Slows down the Floating Board, allowing for easier turns.
Will not slow down if under effects of Photon Thruster or Dash Ring, but will keep the sharp turning. | |
Photon Thruster | Main Pallete Action 2 | Can hold up to 2 stacks
Forces Floating Board to travel at High Speed or above for 5 seconds. 15 second cooldown. Body Blowing enemies reduces cooldown by 2 seconds | |
None | Body Blow | Touch an enemy | A Melee strike when running over the enemies. PA Power is
dependent on Speed:
|
Disembark | Subpallete Number 0 | Disembarks and ends usage of Mobile Cannon
Automatically cast after 60 seconds. Dash Rings refresh the timer. Upon Disembark, deal 500 PA Power in a small AoE. |
