Mining Base Defense is a series of Emergency Quests that occur on Lillipa. Each Quest involves defending Mining Bases from enemy attacks by using collaborative teamwork and strategy.

Mechanics

The core mechanics of the Quest involve defending Mining Bases. Mining Bases are large towers that are marked by colored hexagons on the map; the goal of the Quest is to survive all of the Waves without letting all of your Mining Bases be destroyed. Although all variations of Mining Base Defense share a common goal and core mechanics, different versions may also have unique mechanics.

Crystals

To assist in defending your Bases, Crystals are scattered around the map for players to collect. These Crystals add to a "bank" total indicated by the Point counter on the right side of the screen. These come in three sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. Small Crystals provide 10 Points, Medium Crystals provide 30 Points, and Large Crystals provide 30 Points. All Crystal types also give 50 EXP per Crystal collected. When certain values of Points are reached, Players may access Control Panels on Mining Bases or Defense Pads to activate a variety of features.

Turret

Appears in Invasion, Intrusion, Despair, and Demise. Activated from a Defense Pad. Summons a Turret that players can board. While using a Turret, hold the Attack Button to fire bullets continuously. Turrets have limited ammunition and will despawn when it runs out of ammo.

Photon Particle Cannon

Appears in all Mining Base Defense Quests. Activated from a Defense Pad. Summons a Photon Particle Cannon that players can board. While using a Photon Particle Cannon, hold the Attack Button to charge a gauge at the center of the screen. When the gauge is full, release the Attack Button to unleash a powerful laser. While the laser is active, the cannon's turning mobility is reduced, but the laser inflicts massive damage against anything in its line of sight. Lasts for a few seconds before expiring. When the laser is exhausted, the cannon despawns.

Purification

Appears in Despair and Demise. Activated from a Corrupted Defense Pad. Cleanses a Defense Pad that has been infected at the beginning of a Wave or by a Solza's attack.

ARKS Interception Silhouette (A.I.S.)

Appears in Despair and Demise. Activated from a Defense Pad. Summons an A.I.S. that you automatically board.

Burst Barrier

Appears in all Mining Base Defense Quests. Activated from a Mining Base. Summons a Burst Barrier around the Base that lasts a few seconds. Anything in direct proximity to the Base will become Frozen. Does not block damage from projectiles. Has no effect on enemies that are immune to the Freeze status.

Heal

Appears in all Mining Base Defense Quests. Activated from a Mining Base. Restores a large amount of HP to the target Base.

Emergency Quests

There are six iterations of Mining Base Defense.

Mining Base Defense: Invasion

Emergency broadcast! Numerous Darkers are approaching the outlying regions of Lillipa's primary mining base!

—ARKS Ship Announcement

The first Mining Base Defense. Features a relatively small map with three Bases. Introduces the Goldrahda, a Darker that can wield various weapons and can self-detonate to inflict damage against Mining Bases.

Mining Base Defense: Intrusion

Emergency broadcast! Numerous Darkers are approaching the outlying regions of Lillipa's secondary mining base!

—ARKS Ship Announcement

This Quest features a wall gimmick that protects Bases. As Darkers inflict damage to the walls, they will eventually crumble, allowing Darkers to spawn farther inwards. Introduces the Vidluda, a small Darker that can stun players with its attacks.

Mining Base Defense: Despair

Emergency broadcast! Numerous Darkers are approaching the outlying regions of Lillipa's tertitary mining base!

—ARKS Ship Announcement

This Quest features a sprawling map with four Bases, and the Quest is extended to eight waves. Introduces the A.I.S. as a defense mechanic. Also introduces the Darker Wall gimmick, in which destructible walls are spawned that players are unable to pass through, and Darker Particle Towers, Darker towers that are able to fire a laser that inflicts lethal damage to Mining Bases.

Mining Base Defense: Demise

The fourth Mining Base Quest, taking place in a smaller, non-standard map with three Bases. Introduces the A.I.S. Exoda, a Darker counterpart to the A.I.S. that is resistant to A.I.S. damage, as well as Damoths, weak Darkers that can deal massive damage to Mining Bases by ramming into them and exploding. Culminates in a boss battle against Dark Falz Apprentice Gia.

Necky's Challenge

A Quest exclusive to the Famitsu collaboration event. Takes place in the same map as Invasion, but features a variety of enemy types. Turrets and Purification are removed. Introduces VR Walls, which are identical in function to Darker Walls. Awards Gavas Tickets that can be exchanged at a limited-time shop for prizes.

Base Defense Training: VR

A non-exclusive variant of Necky's Challenge. Adds ESC-A Darkers to the enemy rotation, as well as new sets of enemies. Introduces Esmoths, an ESC-A Darker variant of Damoths that can deal massive damage to Bases by ramming into them and exploding.

Quest Rank Reward

Upon completing the quest, ARKS will be reward with Pleiades Stone in any Mining Base Defense EQ (※They are dropped upon breaking the loot crystal in Necky's Challenge and VR). Torana Stones can be obtained from Demise, Necky's Challenge and VR, they are dropped upon breaking the loot crystal after quest is completed.

Advice

  • After a wave is over, any remaining Goldrahdas including ones with broken back will run towards tower and self-destruct. This can be interrupted and delayed with barrier burst which will freeze them, allowing MPA to finish them off.
  • Try to take down infected ARKS Campships, as they will target towers or random MPAs with machine guns and missiles.
  • Vibrace will create a bomb and throw it towards a random tower. If this is not destroyed, the explosion can easily kill MPA that is close and destroy the tower.
