When you are in a mutual follow state where you have followed each other, the "Friend Chat" function will be added to the "Follow List" and "Follower List", and you will be able to chat with that friend.
Affinity
Affinity rises and can even level up when you use friend partner characters you do not own.
Affinity gauge, side stories with a normal and EX variant are shared gain and reward, thus you can only receive one present even if both gauges are filled.
