This launcher's name is a misspelling that dates back to its first appearance in Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity. The correct spelling, SSPM, is printed on the side of the weapon, and stands for "Sarface to Sarface Photonic Missile". This is itself a misspelling of "Surface to Surface Photonic Missile."
